United Wagon Company to build more dump cars for RPC BrIK

19.11.2019 United Wagon Company to build more dump cars for RPC BrIK

Research and production corporation “United Wagon Company” (RPC UWC or the Holding) (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars1, has been contracted to supply a second batch of 20 dump cars to Research and production complex BrIK, which will take delivery of the new rolling stock by the end of 2020.

United Wagon Company signed an initial contract with BrIK at the beginning of the year to supply 20 dump cars for the transportation and automated unloading of bulk and lump mineral cargoes for the mining and construction industries. After the completion of the second contract, BrIK’s railcar fleet will include 40 Tikhvin-produced dump cars.

The model 32-6982-01 dump car without shock-absorbing flooring was added to the UWC product portfolio in 2019. An increased internal volume of 42 m3 and a loading capacity of 72 tonnes enable the efficient transportation of bulk cargoes, particularly small-fraction materials. The loading capacity of the new Tikhvin-produced dump car exceeds that of other similar cars available in the market by nearly 10 tonnes, which makes it possible to reduce the required fleet size by 15%. A remarkable advantage of the 32-6982-01 dump car is its long service life of 32 years, compared with 22 years for its competitors.

The dump car can be coupled with freight trains running both on public railways and the private rail tracks of cargo owners. It has drop-down sides and can be unloaded from the left or right side. The opening mechanism combined with a pneumatic unloading system enable a 45° tilt in either direction with the sides opening simultaneously, after which the body returns to its transportation position.

The dump car runs on bogies with a 25-t axle load, which results in a longer maintenance interval compared with that of standard freight cars mounted on the model 18-100, or similar bogies. Maintenance and repair services for Tikhvin-produced cars are fulfilled by UWC’s extensive network of authorized service centres set up throughout the 1520-mm gauge railway area.

Andrey Evgeniev, CEO at RPC BrIK, said: “We have more than 450 dump cars in our company fleet. The next few years will see massive write-offs of older dump cars. Our company is investing in new generation cars to replace worn and outdated rolling stock. We expect that Tikhvin dump cars will help us to capture a larger share of the transport market and to optimize transportation costs.”
