United Wagon Company (UWC) of Russia and Amsted Rail (AR) of the United States announce the signing of an agreement to cooperate in the area of railway equipment production.

United Wagon Company will receive full intellectual property rights to AR’s Motion Control 18-9836 bogie design. This 25-ton per axle load bogie model has been specifically adapted by AR engineers for freight railcars operating on 1520 mm gauge tracks of Russia and other CIS countries. Amsted Rail will continue a direct license relationship with its existing Russian partners, while UWC will have the authority to issue new licenses to produce Motion Control bogie to other Russian and CIS manufacturers of railway rolling stock.

As part of their long-term cooperation, the parties also agreed to establish a joint venture for designing and manufacturing innovative components for freight railcars.

John Wories, Amsted Rail’s President commented: “We view establishment of partnership relations with UWC as a win-win for both companies since we share common goals and values as related to introducing new generation rolling stock and innovative technologies to Russia and CIS.”

Roman Savushkin, UWC CEO, notes that “the agreement between our companies will contribute to development of heavy-weight railway shipments as a major factor in enhancing the railway network capacity.”

Marcus Montenecourt, Chief Representative of Amsted Rail for Russia and CIS, emphasizes that “the agreement that has been signed is a major first step on the road to mass introduction of new technologies related to manufacturing, operating, and servicing of rolling stock with 25 tons per axle load on the railway network of Russia and other CIS nations.”
