United Wagon Company ("UWC", the "Group" or the "Company") (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars1, will deliver to PJSC Slavneft-YANOS, one of the largest oil refineries in Russia (part of NGK Slavneft), an additional batch of molten sulfur and sulfuric acid tank cars mounted on 25-t axle-load bogies. The cars will be shipped to the refinery in Q4 this year.

UWC and Slavneft-YANOS have been cooperating since 2017. Upon implementation of the new contract, the total number of Tikhvin railcars in the refinery's fleet will exceed 60 units. The rolling stock set to join the fleet of Slavneft-YANOS is mounted on innovative 18-9855 bogies with increased axle load of 25 t, which significantly increases loads each car can accommodate.

The tank car, Model 15-6913, is designed to transport molten sulphur. Its load capacity of 72 tons and tank volume of 44 m3 allow carrying up to 9 tons more of freight (compared to the car’s counterparts running on standard bogies with 23.5-t axle load).

The tank car, Model 15-9545, is intended to carry commercial sulphuric acid. With its load capacity of 77 tons and tank volume of 44 m3, this Tikhvin car can accommodate more cargo, by almost 12%, than its common-type counterparts.

Both tank car models feature increased load capacity, which reduces the empty-run tariff component and, therefore, transportation costs per ton of freight. It also decreases the size of the railcar fleet required for shipment and, accordingly, investment costs to purchase rolling stock. The increased operational reliability of Tikhvin railcars allows to save on railcar maintenance and repair operations during their life cycles, which are 32 years for molten sulphur tank cars and 18 years for sulphuric acid tank cars. Moreover, the maintenance interval of Tikhvin tank cars have a significantly longer maintenance interval: up to 1 million km, or 8 years.
