UWC delivers batch of box cars to Locotrans

Under the contract signed at the start of 2021, United Wagon Company ("UWC", the "Group" or the "Company") (MOEX: UWGN), Russia's largest manufacturer of freight cars¹, delivered 50 box cars to rail operator Locotrans, CJSC. Together with the box cars and timber flat cars delivered to the operator earlier, Locotrans' fleet now includes a total of 750 cars built in Tikhvin.

The 11-6874 box car is a convenient option for transporting a wide range of variously-sized cargoes. The railcar has a load capacity of 73 t and body volume of 175 m³. The design of the new generation rolling stock features improved ergonomics and reliability in operation. In particular, door openings are increased in size compared to conventional models, making loading and unloading easier. The grooved floor provides better grip, both for the load and the forklift wheels. Four loading hatches on the roof and in the side walls of the car body make it easier and quicker to load bulk materials.

The railcars are equipped with bogies with an axle load of 25 t. Their increased maintenance interval (up to 1 million km or 8 years) delivers a significant economic benefit to the owner. For comparison, conventional rolling stock is sent for its first scheduled maintenance upon completing 210 thousand km (or 3 years) after manufacture, and later, every 110-160 thousand km (or 3 years). This Tikhvin box car has a service life of 32 years.
