24.09.2020 UWC delivers new batch of flat cars for transporting timber to Arkhbum

Research and production corporation “United Wagon Company” (UWC, the Group or the Company) (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars1, has delivered a batch of flat cars on 25 t bogies for transporting timber freight, under the terms of an additional agreement signed this summer with Arkhbum, a major regional operator on the railway services market. This is now the third delivery of new generation cars the operator has received since the beginning of the year. Arkhbum’s fleet now counts over 300 Tikhvin-produced rolling stock units.

The model 13-6852-02 (40-foot) flat car is designed for transporting timber materials. It has an increased loading capacity of 74 t and an increased loading volume of 122 m2 which, taking into account current tariffs, reduces transport costs per tonne of freight. The design solutions used in the build of the flat car offer a number of advantages: the special design of the base of the side stakes significantly reduces ‘idle’ freight volumes, while the holes on the end wall allow for easy visual inspection and fastening of the end shields. The flat car is equipped with model 18-9855 bogies with an axle load of 25 t, which are noted for their improved operational reliability. The maintenance interval of the car has been increased up to 1 million km (or eight years). The flat car’s service life is 40 years.

Vasily Knyrevich, CEO at Arkhbum: “We are looking to increase the number of newgeneration cars in our fleet as part of the company’s development strategy, as these cars have demonstrated high performance. I can already say from my own experience that the Tikhvin-produced flat cars not only meet our requirements, but also provide a genuine competitive advantage on the market. We look forward to building our partnership with United Wagon Company.”
