UWC to supply tank cars for transportation of sulfuric acid to RS-Trans

22.05.2020 UWC to supply tank cars for transportation of sulfuric acid to RS-Trans

Research and Production Corporation “United Wagon Company” (UWC or the Company) (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars1, will supply 25 new generation tank cars for transportation of technical-grade sulfuric acid to freight forwarding company RS-Trans. A year earlier, RS-Trans bought a batch of box cars from UWC.

The 15-9545 tank car was the first model launched into mass production by a Tikhvin production entity TikhvinChemMash in 2015. Bogies with a 25-t axle load ensure higher load capacity (77 tonnes) and operational reliability in comparison with the standard rolling stock. The tank car has increased maintenance intervals of up to 1 million km (or 8 years), whereas a standard freight car needs its first scheduled maintenance after running 210,000 km (or in 2 years).

The tank volume of the 15-9545 model car has been increased by almost 15% (to 44 m3) in comparison to that of models mounted on bogies with a 23.5-t axle load. The tank’s structure and the solutions used in its design ensure that it is fully sealed, and prevent leakages and excessive pressure inside the tank.

Aleksey Serov, CEO at RS-Trans: “Our Company has been in the business of railway transportation since 2007. By now, we have risen to the level of providing integrated freightage by rail, cargo forwarding and terminal handling services. The policy of RS-Trans is pivoted towards an individual approach to each client, quick response to any request and optimization of the route network. Nothing listed above would be possible without efficient rolling stock. The acquisition of UWC tank cars on 25-t axle load bogies to transport sulfuric acid enables us to upgrade our client service and we plan to further ramp up our fleet with new generation railcars, because they demonstrate excellent performance.”
