EuroChem acquires a batch of ammonia tank cars from TikhvinChemMash
Research and production corporation “United Wagon Company” (UWC or the Holding) (MOEX: UWGN) has signed a contract with EuroChem, ranking among the world's largest and fastest-growing fertilizer producers, for the supply of 55 large-capacity ammonia tank cars. The cars will be used to transport products of Phosphorit Industrial Group, which is a member of the EuroChem.
The model 15-6926 tank cars will be delivered before the end of April this year raising the total number of railcars owned by EuroChem, built at UWC's TikhvinChemMash manufacturing facility, to over 1,100 (the figure includes both hopper cars for mineral fertilizers and tank cars for molten sulfur).
The ammonia tank cars have an enhanced loading capacity of 60.2 tons with the tank volume increased to 92.7 m3, which enables them to carry some extra 9 tons of freight compared to other similar models. Using a train with only UWC tank cars it allows companies to reduce the size of the railcar fleet required for the shipment by nearly 20%, offering substantial savings on transportation costs per ton of freight and the loading and unloading times.
A large diameter of the tank ensures that its overall capacity is used efficiently and is suited for various loading rack designs. The tank car has a shadow protection, enabling carriage of ammonia at a loading temperature below -33°C. The bogies with a 25 t axle load ensure a reliable and safe transportation, and also increase the run between scheduled overhauls up to 1 million km (or 8 years). The tank cars have a service life of 40 years.
The model 15-6926 tank car was designed by the All-Union Research and Development Centre for Transportation Technology and produced at TikhvinChemMash (parts of UWC). UWC has already delivered the model 15-6926 tank cars to other producers of chemicals and fertilizers such as Uralchem, Shchekinoazot, etc.
