21.12.2016 United Wagon Company is ready to manufacture box cars

The PJSC “Research and production corporation “United Wagon Company” (“RPC UWC” or “the Holding”) (MOEX: UWGN), the market leader in innovative railcar building in the 1520 mm gauge area, has obtained a certificate for mass production of box cars, equipped with bogies with increased axle load. Even at stages of development and trial operation, the new rolling stock has aroused interest in railway operators to purchase it.

Box car of model 11-6874 is a new type of rolling stock in RPC UWC product line. The combination of the box car technical characteristics is the most balanced in the market. It is feasible to transport a wide range of freights in the car thanks to the car’s technical features. The innovative bogie of the car provides for payload capacity increased up to 73 t. The volume of loading of the transported freights is considerably bigger due to the body cubic capacity increased up to 175 m3. To have reached such parameters has been due to the increase in floor space, maximizing body width and absence of protruding elements on the inner surface of the body.

The floor is made of corrugated sheet, which provides for a better freight adhesion with the floor surface and traction of a loader wheels during freight loading/unloading. The dimensions of the door opening allow to carry out handling with all existing types of truck loaders. Four loading hatches (as an option) located on the roof ensure a prompt and easy loading of bulk freight.

The car has successfully passed tests, which confirm high quality of its operational performance indicators when running on public railways, maneuvering on branch lines and overpasses, during car handling and weighing. Increased up to 800 thsd. km (or 8 years) terms of the box car between-repair runs provide for the decrease, by more than 3 times, of its life cycle cost. Box car service life is 32 years.

According to industry experts assessments, currently about 1.4 thsd. box cars are already out of established term of service life. Moreover, in the nearest ten years on average 2.5 – 3.5 thsd. units will annually be written-off. In addition to the replacement of written-off cars, the appearance of new generation box cars on the network will contribute to the return of part of freights to the railway and will be competitive with road transport. In addition, due to the peculiarities of tariffs for transportation in universal freight cars the profitability of operational use of innovative box cars may exceed the profitability of standard freight cars for 400-500 rub/day only due to the increased payload capacity.
