United Wagon Company is launching mass production of new to the market multi-purpose platforms

PJSC “Research and production corporation “United Wagon Company” (“RPC UWC” or the Holding) (MOEX: UWGN) starts the mass production of multi-purpose platforms for large-capacity containers and container-tanks with gross weight up to 36 t, for wheeled and tracked vehicles, as well as piece loads and bulk freights.

The multi-purpose platform (Model 13-6851) with 40 feet of loading length is equipped with the innovative bogie with an axle load of 25 tf, which, along with a special car design, reducing its weight, provides payload increased up to 77.5 t. The design of the platform allows to increase freight car service life up to 40 years and ensure fatigue resistance for the whole term of its operational use. Increased up to 800,000 km (8 years) terms of regulatory overhaul period are a key competitive advantage of the platform. Such terms ensure reduction by 3 times of cost of the freight car service lifetime.

Freight cars assembly capacities of Tikhvin industrial site will be engaged for the manufacture of new generation platforms. The car model has been designed by “All-Union Research and Development Centre of Transportation Technology” (VNICTT, part of RPC UWC). FBO "RC FRT" certificate confirms that the new freight car model complies with the requirements of Technical Regulations of the Customs Union 001/2011 "On the safety of the rolling stock".

The sector's experts consider this type of freight cars to have prospects thanks to two factors: the reduced, by several times, costs of its operational use in comparison with standard platforms, and considerable wear of the Russian fleet of multi-purpose platforms. Moreover, massive introduction of such platforms on the Russian Railways’ network will significantly increase the efficiency of its operation.
