Research and Production Corporation “United Wagon Company” (RPC UWC) and Russian Railways (RZD) have signed a maintenance agreement for freight cars with advanced technical and economical features. The maintenance will be carried out at the Kaliningrad Railways ground.

Under the agreement the maintenance center for RPC UWC’s freight cars equipped with innovative bogies 18-9810 (23,5 tf) and 18-9855 (25 tf) will be established on the base of car-repair depot Chernyakhovsk of Kaliningrad Railways Infrastructure. Chernyakhovsk depot will provide rolling stock current uncoupling repair and required component storage, whereas RPC UWC will arrange training and certification for car-repair enterprise’s specialists.

Dmitry Losev, Deputy CEO for Technical Development at RPC UWC, said: “Kaliningrad Railways is an important transit point and its successful service depends on operating efficiency of rolling stock. Chernyakhovsk depot is the only car-repair enterprise in the Kaliningrad railroad area. Therefore, establishment of the maintenance point here is a significant step in extending maintenance network for innovative rolling stock and developing our partnership with RZD.

Azat Gabdrakhmanov, Head of Kaliningrad Railways Infrastructure, noted: “Kaliningrad Railways has traffic interaction with Lithuanian and Polish Railways, so operation with new generation railcars is not a longer time lag, but current demand. In this regard, we believe that the innovative rolling stock is needed maintenance to increase operating efficiency and carrying quality at the Kaliningrad routes”.
